Recently, Walt Disney World started to implement new interactive queues to their more popular rides such as The Haunted Mansion and Winnie The Pooh. I love these new queues because they have some really fun games and items to touch and play with. However, as with anything new, people seem to be making up their own rules.
Jason and I played in the Haunted Mansion queue late at night and there was no line for the ride. As people approached us, they slowed down and we told them to pass us because we were playing. Some passed us and some played with us :) I have heard reports from other friends who encountered questionable manners in interactive queues. If you are in an interactive queue at a busy time of year and you are taking too long, people will just pass you without saying a word.
There are two sides to the coin here. First of all, if you are playing in the queue, you should be mindful of the line in front of you and move with it appropriately. However, some of the activities are so fun you might want to stay a bit longer. In that case, I say tell the people behind you to go ahead and pass. But please be mindful of the line and don't create big gaps (especially during busy times).
On the other hand, if you are behind people who are taking a long time to play in the queue, you can always ask them if you can pass. Be polite, not accusatory, in your request. For example, you don't need to say "Hey you're taking a really long time, can I pass you?" but rather "Excuse me, if you want to play a bit longer in the queue, may we pass?" In most cases, the people will either move along or let you pass. If they ignore you, then feel free to pass.
The interactive queues are a great new Disney invention and they have plans to do this for even more rides and attractions in the future. If we are all mindful of our surroundings in the interactive queues, they will be a fun place for everyone.
