Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today: Adversity

The Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today is a series of short inspirational stories, assignments, or quotes that I hope will inspire you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be every single day.

Today's quote comes to us from one of the most powerful Disney characters, the Emperor from Mulan!

mulan disney"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all."

- The Emperor, Mulan

This is one of my favorite quotes. When I am having a hard time, I like to think of this and it makes me feel like the hard times will be worth it. Adversity does present you with a character building experience and if you take advantage of it, you will come out on top!

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today: Miracles

The Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today is a series of short inspirational stories, assignments, or quotes that I hope will inspire you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be every single day.

Today's quote comes to us from our favorite wish granter, the Fairy Godmother!

cinderella fairy godmother"Even miracles take a little time."

- Fairy Godmother, Cinderella

If miracles were easy then they wouldn't be miracles. I am a firm believer that anything worth having in life will take hard work. After putting in the work, the payoff is so much better and you appreciate it more! Take one step at a time and don't let anything get in your way!

Disney Fairytale Wedding & Honeymoon Day 7: EPCOT Bridal Portraits

We drove over to EPCOT and began our photo shoot in Italy. I definitely think the EPCOT photo shoot was better because there was no one around and the photographer was able to relax and get more artistic shots. I am SO glad we did both the Magic Kingdom & EPCOT! There was a promotional marketing photo shoot going on for Disney Weddings with another couple so that was cool to see. We also saw a couple doing an engagement shoot.

I think this one belongs in a Men's Wearhouse Ad! So handsome ::swoon::

Italy is such a nice shooting area because it's so romantic. I love the lines of the architecture here!

shelley italy

This is definitely near the top of my favorites! I love the angle, like I said the photographer really had more time at EPCOT to do artistic stuff with his shots.

Then we moved on to Japan which was my idea. Being part Japanese, I have always been drawn to the Japan pavilion so I really wanted some photos. Unfortunately, Yakitori House and the seating area outside were under construction so we had to modify the plan a bit. They didn't make us walk around World Showcase, they drove us around in the van! It was so neat :) Italy was pretty busy with people but after we left that pavilion, the others were just about empty. It was such an experience being in my wedding dress with my Prince in all of these different countries!

japan

Since the outside shots weren't going to happen, the photographer had a great idea and took us inside of Teppan Edo. These pictures were really fun to pose for and turned out amazing!!

teppan edoI'll have to ask my Grandmother what these characters mean. I took Japanese for 2 years in high school but I never got to the Kanji alphabet. I hope they don't mean something bad like "Marriage sucks"!

teppan edo

Jason calls this one "Help! I"m in a box!"

teppan edo

And this one is "I'm totally fine with being in this box".

teppan edo

I've seen this shot before and it turned out beautifully for us too :) So romantic...

teppan edo

I can't tell you how many shots I have of this photo spot over the years. None of them are as beautiful as this!!

We moved along to Morocco and got more stunning shots. This was the photographer's pick, Jason and I were pretty skeptical because Morocco is one of the pavilions we really don't spend that much time in but I think now we have reason to spend more time there!

morocco

And this next one is the photo I'm now using as my avatar across all social media, I love it!!

moroccoAnother potential Men's Wearhouse Ad :)

men's wearhouseAfter Morocco, we moved over to France. The photographer took some really beautiful stop motion shots in front of the fountain. This one is my favorite from that series!

The rest of the shots were all my picks. I wanted to go into the France pavilion in the back where the Patisserie is. I love it back there! On hot, crowded days I like to kick it back there with a croissant and soda :)

We left France and headed over to the UK. Of course, since we had our Illuminations Dessert Party in the UK, I really wanted to take photos there. If I *had* to choose a favorite from the Bridal Portrait Sessions, this one is it! After we move to Orlando, this is definitely going on a canvas in our house :)

At this point, Future World was open so guests were coming in through International Gateway. People were just standing around watching our photo shoot, it was so cool! I wanted to go back into the courtyard to recreate a photo of me and my sister, Trish from 1988. This idea made the photographer's assistant, Alicia, tear up. She said it was amazing that I had been dreaming about this for such a long time and now it was actually happening. She was so sweet!!

This is one of our favorite all time family photos. It's one of those photos that resurfaces every few years and we talk about all of our memories. This was from our very first trip to Walt Disney World in 1988. I had to make poor Trish go and dig it out and it took her an hour to find it! Thanks, sis!! I'm the one on the right...

I hadn't seen this photo in a long time so I guesstimated which bench it was, I should have sat one to the right! Ah well, close enough :)

Our last photo spot was in front of the Rose & Crown. There were a lot of people milling about watching us, and applauding. It was the perfect final photo!

So that wraps up our magical theme park bridal portrait sessions! Joe asked where we would like to be dropped off and I said the lobby again. He said he could take us straight to our room but I wanted to walk around the resort in my wedding dress!! He dropped us off and Jason and I began our short walk to our room. When we passed by people gasped and one lady told me how beautiful my dress was and that she loved the sparkles :) Then we got to walk by a completely full bus stop and everyone applauded. The cast member said "Now there's something you don't see every day!" I guess cast members at the Grand Floridian are quite accustomed to seeing brides and grooms but at Saratoga Springs it's probably not as frequent.

I loved every minute of our bridal portrait sessions and I highly recommend them to all Disney Brides and Grooms! You can only wear your wedding attire if you had a Disney Wedding by the way. At least that's what I was told. I really want to go back in a few years and do Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. Maybe for an anniversary or...Vow Renewal! I also suggest buying the archival disc with all the photos. We got all 300 photos from the ceremony, reception, and bridal portrait sessions for $350. If you add professional photography to an Illuminations Dessert Party you can get those photos added to the archival disc as well. It's a pretty sweet value if you ask me! Otherwise, I would have to choose just 20 from each set!

Please enjoy a slideshow of all of the photos from our EPCOT portrait session!

Disney Fairytale Wedding & Honeymoon Day 7: Magic Kingdom Bridal Portraits

I woke up bright and early at 3:30AM. I had no trouble getting up because I was well rested and SO excited for our Bridal Portrait Sessions at the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT! Patricia Lejeune was right on time, she knocked on the door at 4AM sharp to do my hair and makeup. She did a perfect job again! It was so nice to see her and talk to her again. We talked about the wedding and I showed her some photos on my iPhone. I feel like I need to have another special event just so she can make me all beautiful again!

Jason slept while I was getting all dolled up and he got ready in 10 minutes!

jason tuxI'm finally ready!! I did the same makeup but I had her do my hair a bit different. I went with it down in romantic curls :)

shelley bride

A few minutes before 6AM, the photographer called to see where we wanted to be picked up. I wanted to be picked up outside the lobby so Jason and I could walk around a bit in our wedding gear! As we walked up to the lobby entrance, there were a lot of sad people waiting for the Magical Express to take them home. They all perked up as we walked by and they applauded! I got some really nice compliments on my dress :) We waited at the entrance for a few minutes and then the van showed up. Our photographer was Joe and his assistant was Alicia. Alicia and I became fast friends because we had so much in common and she was so sweet! I made so many new friends on this trip!!

We got in the van and drove to the Magic Kingdom! On the way we discussed the photos we wanted. I didn't have time to make a shot list but I had a few ideas. I was so excited to be backstage but there were workers everywhere, construction vehicles, etc. I was a bit surprised that it was so busy that morning and so was the photographer. We started at the castle and even with all the noise and construction, I made myself ignore it so I could take in the moment. I was standing in front of Cinderella's castle in my Alfred Angelo Cinderella wedding dress with my Prince. It was one of the best moments of my life.

cinderella castle
cinderella castle

I'm so glad these photos turned out so well. There were 2 cranes at the castle that morning and workers everywhere but the magic of Photoshop made it look like we were the only ones in the park! We used silk flowers for our portraits instead of doing the floral refresh. I was so grateful for this because my wedding day bouquet weighed about 10 lbs! Ok I'm exaggerating but it was heavy!! Thanks to everyone who helped me design my silk bouquet, it looked great :)

We moved into the castle and took some shots near the doors and artwork. The photographers were really professional, setting up lighting, and perfecting my dress the whole time. I felt like a movie star!

cinderella castle portrait

I really like the black and white shots they did for us, I'm a big fan of old hollywood and these photos are just perfect!

cinderella castle door

Then we shot near Cinderella's wishing well. I loved every minute!! My Cinderella dress was just perfect for all of these photos!

cinderella wishing well

I really can't choose a favorite but I lean towards the black and white photos. This one is definitely near the top!

black and white bride groom

We went to the Prince Charming's Regal Carousel next. It was a bit difficult and uncomfortable for me to sit on a horse in my wedding dress and they did a good job making it look like I wasn't about to fall off!

prince charming's regal carousel

Until this point, the carousel music was turned off. As I was sitting on the horse, a cast member turned on the music. It was When You Wish Upon a Star and I totally started crying :) We got in a few last shots before the tears were streaming down my face!

carouselJason took a few solo photos while I composed myself!

We finished up with some shots of Peter Pan's Flight since that is where Jason proposed to me :) He proposed on 9.21.2010 which was my 29-and-12-month birthday. Peter Pan's Flight was the perfect proposal, he did it as we were flying over London ::swoon::

When we walked out, an announcement came on saying that the Magic Kingdom was opening at 9am and needed to be "show ready" at this time. It was so cool being there before it opened and getting to go backstage!

Please enjoy a slideshow of all of the photos from our Magic Kingdom portrait session!

Stay tuned for our EPCOT bridal portrait session!

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today: Family Comes First

The Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today is a series of short inspirational stories, assignments, or quotes that I hope will inspire you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be every single day.

Since this week is Thanksgiving, I will have a Thanksgiving theme!

Today's quote comes to us from Walt Disney himself!

walt disney family"A man should never neglect his family for business."

- Walt Disney

Okay so Walt lived in a different era so this quote should be updated to say "person" instead of "man". I  know I have a tendency to ignore everything in life in pursuit of my work but family really should come first. It is incredibly difficult to manage a work-life balance and even Walt had a nervous breakdown. It happens to the best of us but you can get through it with a supportive family. In life, you have to have a support system which is why your family should come first!

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today: Happy Thanksgiving!

The Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today is a series of short inspirational stories, assignments, or quotes that I hope will inspire you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be every single day.

disney characters thanksgivingHappy Thanksgiving! Today I just have one assignment for you: ENJOY!

Life is stressful and the holidays can just add to the stress sometimes. But today I want you to just sit back, relax, and enjoy a feast with your family (or whatever you tradition may be). Think about the past year and all that you are thankful for. Here are some of the things I am thankful for this year!

1. My dream wedding in Walt Disney World where I married my prince, best friend, and confidant

2. Our wonderful family - without their support we would not have gotten through the wedding!

3. All of my friends, Disney related or not you all support me and I am very thankful for that :)

4. Seeing George Lucas and Bob Iger at the grand opening of Star Tours 2.0 ;)

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today: Be Thankful

The Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today is a series of short inspirational stories, assignments, or quotes that I hope will inspire you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be every single day.

Since this week is Thanksgiving, I am going to have a Thanksgiving theme all week!

Today's quote comes to us from A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving!

"But Thanksgiving is more than eating, Chuck. You heard what Linus was saying out there. Those early Pilgrims were thankful for what had happened to them, and we should be thankful, too. We should just be thankful for being together. I think that's what they mean by 'Thanksgiving,' Charlie Brown."

- Marcie, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Sometimes the holidays can be stressful. There's planning, shopping, cooking, baking, etc. But just remember the spirit of the season and keep it in your heart. It's not a competition to give the best presents or host the best holiday dinner. It's about being together. There are many in this world who are not so lucky as to have family and friends to spend the holidays with. If you are so lucky, I encourage you to think about all of your blessings and hold them in your heart forever.

Disney Fairytale Wedding & Honeymoon Day 6: Relaxation & Spa Day

We woke up around early around 7AM and decided to cancel our reservation at The Crystal Palace. Instead, we decided to go to Downtown Disney. We took a nice romantic stroll along the path from Saratoga Springs and it was SO beautiful!

saratoga springs walkway

It was such a nice day and the walk was just what we needed. Pretty soon we reached Downtown Disney!

downtown disney

The first order of business was breakfast. I guess I was behind in my WDW knowledge because I thought McDonald's was still there. We were pleasantly surprised by their replacement, Pollo Campero! SO much better than McDonalds!

pollo campero

I actually had cake for breakfast so I watched Jason eat his breakfast sandwich with a side of bacon!

pollo campero

After breakfast, we strolled around for awhile and went shopping. I never realized how many cute photo opportunities there are at Downtown Disney!!

tweedles

I couldn't help myself, Mr. Potato Head is one of my favorites!!

potato head To infinity and beyond!!

buzz lightyear And then we found our new favorite store, the Wonderful World of Gaming!! Jason and I are both avid gamers and the existence of this store just tickled us!! The Cast Member working there didn't know much about video games and he asked me to show him how to play Cars 2 for the Wii. I schooled him :) I love racing games!! Jason had to check out Lego Pirates of the Caribbean...

jason gaming

After our gaming break, we tried to find swimwear for our spa appointments that afternoon. In all the craziness the week before our trip, I had forgotten to pack swimsuits! I knew there were whirlpools at the spa so I figured we needed swimsuits. I struck out but Jason found a good pair of trunks on sale :) We found a few more photo opportunities on our way around!

This is one of the coolest sculptures at the Lego store!!!

Before we left, we stopped by Arribas Bros to see if we could get mugs engraved. The lady didnt have anything but she called the Main Street store and talked to the artist for me. He said he could do something for us so we stopped in there later in our trip. They even ship things home for free! I had to get a picture of this Chernabog sculpture, I WANT!!

chernabog Since I couldn't find a swimsuit anywhere at Downtown Disney (what's up with that??), we hopped a bus to the Grand Floridian so I could pick one up at Summer Lace. Of course, they had exactly what I was looking for. The Cast Members talked to us about the wedding and I showed them pictures. One of them said she was working the day we were married and she saw us walking through the lobby a few times! It was magical :)

We took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and a lady told us that she was married at the Wedding Pavilion 10 years ago. She said its nice to bring her son here now, he was in a stroller. That will be us soon!! I loved talking to other guests about the wedding. It will be kind of a bummer on future trips not to be congratulated all the time so we won't feel special. But, I guess everyone is treated like a VIP in Walt Disney World :)

Finally we made it back to Saratoga Springs for spa time and massages!

horse
saratoga springs spa

We did the 50 minute couples aromatherapy massage and it was worth every penny! We both really enjoyed it. But, I did not know that the whirlpools were in the locker rooms. So, Jason and I couldn't soak together. I never even ended up using my bathing suit! We were so relaxed and sleepy that we ended up cancelling our reservation at Le Cellier and hanging around the resort. No worries, we will eat at Le Cellier in February 2012! By late afternoon I was positively starving because all I had to eat all day was a slice of wedding cake and a few samples at Pollo Campero. So, we hit up the Artist's Palette!

artists palette

Sorry, no food porn pictures :( I was so dazed that I totally forgot to take pictures of the food! I had the chicken nuggets and Jason had the Smith Stack. Both were absolutely delicious!! We spent the next hour planning our day for WDW's 40th anniversary. We were getting so excited to meet our Disney online friends!!

Since I had to get up at 3AM for hair and makeup for bridal portraits the next morning, we stayed in that night to rest up. We never even ended up going to one of the parks. It was a nice relaxing day!

Oh boy, bridal portraits are up next!!
