Star Wars Weekends 2012

This is my full trip report from Star Wars Weekends 2012. This was our first Star Wars Weekends as Florida residents!

Weekend 1

Star Wars Weekends 2012: Weekend 1

In 2011, my (then) fiance Jason and I visited Star Wars Weekends for the first time. The difference this year is that WE'RE LOCALS!! That means we get to go to ALL 4 WEEKENDS! Ah, I am in nerd heaven :) Just because we are locals now does not mean we have time to go all 3 days per weekend but we will try to go as much as possible. For weekend 1 May 18 - 20, 2012, we were only able to go on Saturday, May 19th. Since this was the first weekend, there were meets that day for WDW Radio and Studios Central and we were able to go to both! The day began with me getting all dolled up in my HerUniverse gear and playing with my iPhone while waiting for Jason to get ready :)

Now that I am on a quest for fitness, I have stopped taking the tram. We walked all the way, it wasn't so bad and it takes less time than the tram! star wars weekends mapThe park was really packed (but not as packed as May 20, 2011!) so we found a spot on the curb and waited for the parade. People, of course, came up and asked us to move over so they could fit without saying "please" and they totally invaded our personal space. We had children in wheelchairs behind us kicking our backs for a bit but I think at least the parents noticed and made them stop. Sigh. Oh well, it was totally worth it and we had a spectacular view of the entire parade!

You can find my full playlist for Star Wars Weekends 2012 here. After the parade, we hightailed it to the WDW Radio Meet of the Month! We were very happy to meet old and new friends.

After the meet, we all went to Darth's Mall together. I made a beeline for the HerUniverse section, I had my eye on an awesome new tote bag!

One day I will buy some art in here. Maybe next year!

Back outside we ran into more friends from Facebook! I LOVE bumping into people I'm friends with on Facebook but haven't met in real life yet!! Especially when they also spell their name S-H-E-L-L-E-Y!! I also got a chance to show off my new tote bag!

We were starving by then so we said goodbye to our friends and went over to the Commissary for lunch. We also met up with the gang from Studios Central but I didn't take any  pictures! I must have been hungry! I had to take a picture of this Once Upon a Time poster outside though :) I love this show!!

In an effort to be sort of healthy, I got the turkey sandwich kids meal. It would have been better if the sandwich had cheese and mayo. It was a bit bland and dry. I loved the yogurt and carrot sticks though!

Jason had the burger which he said was the standard burger they serve everywhere.

I also got a Darth Vader cupcake to take home. I came prepared with a tall tupperware container and it fit perfectly! This cupcake did NOT look like the pristine photos I have seen. They had them sitting in the food service area and the servers were grabbing them, stuff was falling on them and none of them looked like the blog photos I had seen.

I had every intention of cutting this cupcake into 4 pieces and eating it slowly over a few days. When we got home, I ended up eating the whole thing! I think that it has the same mousse frosting that they use for the wedding cakes. It tasted like it had a hint of peanut butter and caramel...mmm delicious. This will not be the only cupcake I get during Star Wars Weekends 2012!

We had planned to go back on Sunday but when I woke up, my sunburn from the previous day was absolutely throbbing. I thought I had put on sunscreen but apparently the spray was just compressed air. I only took a picture of my knees because my shoulders were almost purple. I didn't want to disgust people!

Oh well, lesson learned. I am equipped with my flippin awesome fabulous derby hat for next weekend! Yes, it's the same hat that I wore from Star Wars Weekends 2011! I usually take skin care very seriously and I think I was just so excited that I didn't take my own advice this weekend. It will take a long time for my skin to get used to the Florida sun!

We did not have a chance to see any of the shows over at the Premier Theater or Hyperspace Hoopla but that is all on our schedule for next weekend! Stay tuned :)

2012 Day Trips

This page is where you will find all of our adventures from day trips after our Relocation to Florida in 2012. Come along with us, and see the magic worlds of Disney!

Micky Dolenz at EPCOT Flower Power Concert Series 2012

Micky Dolenz at EPCOT Flower Power Concert Series 2012

When the Flower Power Concert Series for 2012 was announced, I was SO excited to see that Davy Jones was scheduled to perform the very last week. In 2009, we missed seeing Davy Jones by just one day and I was very much looking forward to seeing him this year.

I found out that Davy Jones had died while I was riding a Disney bus to Port Orleans French Quarter in February 2012. It was just days after the above picture was taken and I am still so sad that he is gone. I was very happy to hear that Micky Dolenz had agreed to step in and that he was planning to do a tribute to Davy Jones. Even though his first performance was the first day of Star Wars Weekends 2012, I HAD to go see him! I am so glad that I did.

I shot video of the entire concert including the tribute to Davy Jones in part 3. There is a crowd sing along to Daydream Believer and I was, of course, in tears the entire time. RIP Davy. I hope you heard us singing to you!

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today: Where I Belong

The Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today is a series of short inspirational videos, stories, assignments, or quotes that I hope will inspire you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be every single day.

Today's video comes to us from Hercules!

Recently I had a great time hanging out with some new friends at Downtown Disney and when this song played, I teared up bigtime. I was sitting at a table with wonderful women and I truly felt like I belonged there. Now that I live in Florida, I have felt a huge change come over myself. I can be myself, uber nice and cheerful 24/7! I finally feel like I am where I belong :)

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today: About Ladies by Marie

The Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today is a series of short inspirational videos, stories, assignments, or quotes that I hope will inspire you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be every single day.

Today's quote comes to us from one of my very favorite Disney Animated Classics, The Aristocats!

"Ladies don’t start fights, but they can finish them!"

- Marie, The Aristocats

I love this quote!! I love the Aristocats so much that I had a cat named Duchess (RIP, I'll always miss you). I love this quote because I think it means that ladies may not seem intimidating at first, but you should not mess with them! Being a true lady means having good manners and etiquette but also not allowing yourself to get walked all over. Being polite does not mean that you will let people take advantage of you!

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today: Wishes!

The Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Tip For Today is a series of short inspirational videos, stories, assignments, or quotes that I hope will inspire you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be every single day.

Today I have an inspirational story for you from my first week as a Florida resident!

cinderella castle night

The week after our relocation to Florida, I had a very stressful time at work. I was working late many nights and literally had time for nothing else. One night, I was feeling very frustrated and stressed out which put me in a terrible mood. It was nearly 10PM and I had been working all day and night. As I geared down my workday, I heard loud booming noises outside. I quickly realized that it was just after 10PM and I was hearing Wishes from the Magic Kingdom. I live close enough to hear Wishes!! I couldn't help it, I grinned from ear to ear. All the job stress in the world is completely worth it because I get to live so close to Walt Disney World that I can hear Wishes from my house (and I do genuinely love what I do)!

Keep the Line Moving at Bag Inspection

disney world bag check When you enter any Disney Park, you have to pass through a bag inspection. Bag inspection at Disney Parks was implemented after the events of September 11 and it is an extra security measure to ensure safety in the parks. Disney Security Guards stand at the entrance of each park and they briefly look through guest bags. During the busy season, the lines at security inspection can get very long. There are a few things that guests can do to make the line move a bit faster.

Open all of your bags before you get to the front of the line. If you have any bags inside of your bag, take them out of the larger bag and open them. For example, if you have a small makeup bag inside of your tote bag, then take out the makeup bag and have both bags open on the table ready for inspection. If you have a stroller, take all bags out of the stroller and put them on the table for inspection. Every bag that you bring into a Disney Park will be checked!

Open all camera bags and remove the camera. After going through Disney Security Inspection a few times, I started removing my camera from my bag because I knew they would just ask me to remove it anyway. You want to give them very little to go through so that you can pass through inspection as quickly as possible. I have noticed that they pay special attention to the bottom of the bag and they briefly feel the exterior. They are looking to make sure that you are not carrying any weapons or explosives into the park.

I have found that if I have all of my bags open and ready for the inspection, the security guard can tell that I know what I am doing and they let me go through very quickly. I also give the security guard my trademark smile and I have had some wonderful interactions with them. My favorite is when they call me "Princess"!

Keep these tips in mind the next time you pass through bag inspection! Have a magical day :)
